How Reserve Requirements Actually Control Money Supply (And Why Most Get It Wrong)

Reserve requirements do not directly limit bank lending in the modern U.S. financial system. Since 2008, and specifically following the Federal Reserve’s decision to reduce the reserve requirement ratio to 0% in March 2020, the "money multiplier" has become a relic of economic history.
